The general condition of my asphalt is:

Very Good - Fairly new or recently maintained, tight aggregate with smooth surface, still quite black in color with relatively few cracks, virtually no potholes or other major distressed areas.

Good - Average looking pavement, some loose aggregate with identifiable space between surface aggregates, greying in color, but still quite dark, a fair number of cracks with a few minor potholes and/or alligator or other distressed areas emerging.

Wearing Out - Older looking pavement, very light in color with a lot of loose gravel and a rough grainy look and feel throughout, significant and sometimes wide cracking with a lot of potholes, alligator areas, raveling, or other major distresses.
